THE MISSION

Ensuring every pregnant woman in rural Uganda has access to ultrasound scan service

We are improving the maternal health in rural settings by enabling access to ultrasound scan services through technology

An overlooked demographic

A quiet crisis exists among women of reproductive age in the rural settings of Africa

For years past, maternal health has focused on a number of control measures including family planning, clinical prenatal, antenatal and postnatal care packages leaving out one of the most important and critical diagnostic tool for identifying risk factors causing some of the avoidable maternal and fetal deaths.

Pregnant women mostly in rural settings remain at risk of dying from complications arising from pregnancy such as severe bleeding due to molar pregnancy and abortions etc. Most of these women attend health facilities that lack key resources including ultrasound to make timely diagnosis. Often complications are spotted late and mothers’ as well as babies’ lives cant be saved.

Bringing Ultrasound to the reach of pregnant women

Our work in Uganda focuses on enhancing maternal healthcare in rural Uganda through conducting community outreaches to promote access and awareness, empowering frontline health workers in point-of-care ultrasound and establishing equipped ultrasound scan units in rural health facilities.

In Uganda, about 1 in 15 women daily face childbirth-related fatalities, leading to a maternal mortality rate of 189 per 100,000 live births.

Nearly 42% of these deaths link to scannable risk factors.

This is worse in rural settings where pregnant women attend to Health Center III’s that often lack essential resources, relying on basic amenities such as a bed, a community health worker, and frequently insufficient medication
